Preparing food Cooks prepare ingredients, such as measuring, chopping, and peeling. They also cook food using recipes and ensure it's high quality. Maintaining a clean kitchen Cooks keep the kitchen organized and clean, including washing dishes, pots, and pans. They also ensure the kitchen is sanitary and follows food storage procedures. Managing inventory Cooks monitor stock levels and place orders. They may also manage the kitchen's food inventory, such as meat or dry goods. Enforcing hygiene regulations Cooks follow food safety regulations and procedures to prevent contamination and foodborne illnesses. Collaborating with other staff Cooks work with other kitchen staff to deliver meals. They may also liaise with front-of-house staff to ensure hot food is served. Developing new recipes Cooks may create and manage the menu, including developing new dishes. Meeting customer expectations Cooks accommodate guests with allergies and ensure food meets customer expectations.
Responsibilities
Food safety Cooks should know how to follow food safety regulations and practices, including proper food storage and preparation. They should also be aware of hygiene standards and how to clean their workspace, utensils, and food storage areas. Cooking skills Cooks should have knowledge of various cooking methods and cutting techniques. They should also be able to use knives well and perform food preparation tasks efficiently. Communication and teamwork Cooks should have excellent communication skills and be able to work well with others in the kitchen. Attention to detail Cooks should be able to follow recipes and preparation details accurately to ensure consistent food quality. Time management Cooks should be able to manage their time efficiently to meet cooking schedules and service times. Experience Cooks should have proven cooking experience, ideally in a fast-paced foodservice environment.
